Steve Wetzel, National Sales Manager and Daryl Francis, Business Manager West, announced today that Interplastic Corporation's Thermoset Resins Division is raising the prices of CoREZYN® and Silmar® brand products. Vinyl ester resins will be increased $0.10 per pound and polyester, specialty resins, gel coats, colorants, and putties will be increased by $0.06 per pound. The increase will apply to shipments on or after January 1, 2005. This increase is in addition to the previously announced increase of November 13, 2004.
These price increases have been necessitated by the unprecedented increased costs of polyester and vinyl ester raw materials. In addition, the supply of propylene glycol and maleic anhydride continue to be on sales control or allocation. Vinyl ester resin prices are being driven by cost increases and shortages of epoxy and bisphenol A.
Even though there has been a recent pullback of the price of crude oil from its record high, it must be sustained in order to have any impact on refined chemical products. Natural gas however, continues to increase in price, influencing the cost of all natural gas derivatives. In addition to the products already mentioned, prices for ethylene glycol, phthalic anhydride, DCPD and isophthalic acid, as well as many others continue to rise. The industry has been unable to replace inventories as demand continues to exceed supply. Allocation of certain key materials will continue into next year. Interplastic values your understanding and support during this extraordinary year of cost increases.
